Rush Limbaugh Demeans Military. Glenn Beck Piles On.

Digby has a great post about Rush Limbaugh, saying that his comments slamming aid to Haiti are actually demeaning the military and a military mission. Calling their current endeavor "Meals on Wheels" is a great thing for the soldiers to have to listen to on Armed Forces Radio. Great for morale.

Digby also adds that Glenn Beck has chimed in, equating the disaster in Haiti with the Fort Hood shooting. Beck said:

"I also believe this is dividing the nation…to where the nation sees him react so rapidly on Haiti and yet he couldn’t react rapidly on Afghanistan. He couldn’t react rapidly on Ft. Hood. He couldn’t react rapidly on our own airplanes with an underwear bomber…it doesn’t make sense. [...] Three different events and Haiti is the only one. I think personally that it deepens the divide to see him react this rapidly to Haiti."
Let's see.  Afghanistan. Obama did exactly what he said during his campaign that he was going to do. He took time to deliberate his options and weigh the ramifications of the various courses of action presented to him. The GOPhers got upset because 1) Obama is a Democrat, 2) he did not instantly do what the generals wanted, and 3) he considered the costs of what was being asked of him. Unlike Bush, Obama actually include war spending in his budget which is why his budget figures looked so bad. General McCrystal verged on insubordination by releasing a confidential report as a way to force Obama to give him what he wanted, but what the GOPhers forget, is that Obama has to think about 2 wars, recruitment, other hot spots in the world, and all the other ways the military is used (disaster relief anyone?). McCrystal is concerned only with Afghanistan. That was made abundantly clear.

Fort Hood. I seem to recall hearing from the White House pretty quickly. I don't think I turned on my stopwatch, but who cares? I know that if Obama is sitting in a classroom reading to a class and someone flies a plane into a building, he probably won't continue reading the story, nor allow his wife to sit in the Situation Room and participate in the decision making while he flies off to an undisclosed location (Cheney).  I know that it took  Bush 6 days to respond to Richard Reid, the Shoe Bomber which is the equivalent situation to the Christmas Day Bomber.

Now, a truly equivalent situation for comparison? How about Hurricane Katrina? Remember "Good job, Brownie?" Remember how long it took for Bush to take action? Remember how long it took for New Orleans to be rebuilt? What was that? Oh right. We're still waiting.

Of course, Beck is the man who called the 9/11 families and the Katrina survivors scumbags. Very compassionate. We all know that there is no comparison, no equivalency. If Obama had an (R) after his name, he would be hailed as a savior for his actions in Haiti. It does not matter what he does or does not do. Limbaugh and Beck will only attack and smear.

Thanks for stopping by. Come back soon.

  1. Bring back the draft and put Limbaugh & Beck first and second on the list. Those two sniveling cowards wouldn't last a minute. And it would be the same if they had any position of responsibility in the government-- total and epic failure.

As it is, they can sit in their solid gold 'commentator' chairs and throw their feces without consequence.

    They are scum.

  2. Kyra, in order to answer you properly I have to do it here because what I have to say to you wouldn't be posted on Vera's blog.

What you have attempted to do is demonize me with your reply on my comment on playing doctor. If you read the posts I had made you would understand that I had only used anon @ 6:58 post as an example of the possibility of people taking no real evidence and exaggerating it all out of proportion. Shame on you if you are truly a professional. You should be well aware that the 'playing doctor' remark can go a lot further than one child examining another naked, for example. Such behaviour frequently goes as far as inserting objects into vaginas or rectums and even further. But without knowing what anon was actually talking about we have no way of knowing.

Anon was most likely reaching out when she initiated the discussion of her experience. If not it was completely made up. To ask for more or to ponder what she was talking about is no affront to her in any way, nor is it an affront to her to suggest that she experienced an episode of 'playing doctor'. Knowing full well as I do, and you should, that calling an incident of abuse 'playing doctor' is not an attempt to minimize her experience. It is in fact a gentle way of bringing a person out and into accepting that her experience was not out of the ordinary compared to what a great many people have experienced in the early adolescent years.

But all that is not the point is it. And you know it isn't! The real point is that bloggers in their gleeful rush to demonize Palin are imagining up all sorts of horrible scenarios to suit both her and her family. You, as a professional, have no business taking part in that.

So Kyra, if you post this message and respond to it then you may receive a reply from me. If you don't then I will not care in the least and nobody will hear the tree fall in the forest.

Shame on you for using a blog to unfairly demonize people on nothing more than pure speculation. Shame! If I knew your real name I would report you to whatever professional organization you belong to. And that's supposing that you are a professional? I suspect you couldn't be!

  3. No, Beck is not batsit crazy or insane and no professional would suggest that he is. He's acting and doing a good job of it. He's also capable of summoning up emotion in the way a good actor can and that explains the tears. Yes, he is definitely politically motivated in a way that you and I are opposed to but that's certainly not a reason to call him insane. If you are a professional you should be reported to your professional organization. I'll be looking to ascertain your real identity in order to do just that!

  4. Straight Goods,
If you go back to Vera's, or any of the other blogs where I post, you will note that I have said I am not licensed. I am, however trained. You will also note that I am very careful not to diagnose. I might suggest that I observe problems and believe that SP has a personality disorder of some sort (without any specificity), but I have not done anything outside my code of ethics.

As far as saying Glenn Beck is batshit insane, what's the problem? Insane is not a clinical term. Find it anywhere in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) and I'll take it down immediately. Insane is not a medical term or term used within the counseling profession. It is a legal term or used by people who like to make jokes, as I did.

Regarding your post about anon, I will respond, however, I won't respond in the comment section and I need to give it some thought, which I do not have time to do right now. You've raised some good points for discussion and I think they should be discussed. I generally avoid bringing my status in to a discussion, but when someone references someone else's lack of status as a reason to ignore their equally valid argument, I just wanted to say that I knew what I was talking about when I tried to speak up for anon. In any case, I will try to respond to you soon.
